What was your background before joining AGC?
I studied industrial ceramics at a materials chemistry engineering school in France. The study of glass came up in my final year and really interested me.

Why did you decide to join AGC and how did it all begin?
I wanted to do R&D, so I looked for a research centre that was more glass oriented. I'd heard about AGC and decided to apply via the VIE (Volontariat International Entreprise) scheme, funded by the French government. This is a one- to two-year assignment designed to promote international employment for young people. I was taken on for two years at the research centre, then permanently. I've been here for almost eight years now.

How did your integration go?
I've been in the same department ever since I arrived. Over and above the interest I take in my work, the technical aspects of my assignments and my successful integration into the team, with pleasant colleagues, have greatly contributed to my professional well-being.

Can you describe your role as a Junior Specialist in laminated glass?
I'm a researcher and specialist in laminated glass, which is safety glass made up of two sheets of glass with a polymer film in the middle designed to hold all the pieces of glass together in the event of breakage, thus preventing falls, injuries and vandalism. I work in the architectural field.

What does your day-to-day work involve?
My remit is varied when it comes to laminated glass. I may have to support from the development of the material all the way through the product certification and marketing. Or I may share my expertise with other departments and play a support role for factories that send me samples. I come in to analyse defects and help them the best I can and as quickly as possible, to respond to the problem to avoid damaging parts of the stock. It's very stimulating!

How have your skills developed so far?
My expertise has been built up over time, thanks to the experience and training I have received, particularly from my more experienced colleagues. I've been able to develop my skills by working on a variety of manufacturing problems and projects.
My work evolves with market demand, particularly with the current trend to create products with a low carbon footprint. These new products require continuous adaptation to ensure that they meet safety standards and aesthetic criteria, while maintaining the same performance as traditional materials.

If you think about AGC's values, which one would you choose? Why do you think this value is so important?
I see diversity as a major asset. AGC is an international group that reflects this multiculturalism. Cultural and academic diversity enriches us by bringing new ideas and perspectives. Every project benefits from this.
Furthermore, at the Technovation Centre, around 20% of employees are women: above the average for the industrial sector. It's important to promote the presence of women in business, to inspire younger generations. AGC makes every effort to hire competent women and show them that it is possible to thrive in traditionally male-dominated sectors.

What do you most look forward to in your career with the Group?
In the future, I'd like to learn more about production lines. Although I work in a research centre where we develop products, it's essential to gain practical experience in the field to fully master the process and improve quality.

What would you say to someone considering joining AGC?
I'd tell him or her not to hesitate! For those who want to work internationally, AGC is present throughout Europe, Japan and Brazil, offering a wide range of career opportunities. Even without specific expertise in glass, AGC offers positions in areas such as research, intellectual property and legal. It's a multi-disciplinary company where everyone can find fulfilment, whether in a permanent position or even an internship.

My expertise has been built up over time. It's by being confronted with various manufacturing problems and projects that I've been able to develop my skills.
